Joshua Anderson

I race bikes professionally in Europe, and I'm now moving into tech sales. I studied political science at UC Berkeley, spent over a year on outbound calls for the university's fundraising team, and have earned two HubSpot sales certifications.

I'm looking for an SDR or BDR role at a Bay Area company whose product is worth understanding in depth, and a team that takes the craft of selling seriously.

Work

2020 – 2021

Fundraiser, UC Berkeley

Outbound calling for the university endowment

Cold-called prospective donors for over a year while studying full time. My first real experience of outbound work: short conversations with strangers, frequent rejection, and learning what makes someone stay on the line.

2024 – now

Professional cyclist, Belgium

Atom 6 Bikes – Cycleur de Luxe – Auto Stroo (2026) · X-Speed United (2025)

Racing professionally in Europe for two UCI Continental teams, based in Belgium since 2024.

  • Three top-10 finishes in 2025: 8th at Kryterium Asów Bielsko-Biała (Poland), 9th at VDL Groep Omloop der Kempen (Netherlands, UCI 1.2) and 10th at Sluitingsprijs Putte-Kapellen (Belgium)
  • 14th at Trofee Maarten Wynants (Belgium, 2026)
  • Raced in six countries in 2025, including UCI stage races in Spain, Poland, Portugal and France, such as the Vuelta Asturias (UCI 2.1)
  • Keeping my location up to date in USADA's anti-doping whereabouts program, so testers can find me without notice. I update it every day, including every change of plans. Zero missed tests.
  • Representing sponsors on social media and at races

How I plan to approach the role

Understand the buyer before the pitch.

Learn the product and the customer's actual problem well enough to explain both in plain language, before trying to book a meeting.

Hold a high standard, every day.

Racing at the professional level means the work gets done whether or not anyone is watching. I bring the same standard to prospecting: consistent daily volume, done properly, with no skipped days.

Review every week and adjust.

Track calls, emails, replies and meetings daily. At the end of each week, look at what worked and what didn't: keep the messages and approaches that book meetings, drop the ones that don't, and test one new idea the following week.

Ask for feedback early and often.

Review calls with a manager regularly and fix one thing at a time.

Elsewhere

Outside work, I rowed for Cal while at Berkeley, where the team won a Division I national championship and two Pac-12 titles.
